Whatcha Watchin? – Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse
Main article content
This week in TV…
It’s all about houses:
- the Block
- Backyard Blitz
- My Kitchen Rules
- Master Chef
- The Real Housewives of Melbourne… Sydney… Beverley Hills…
The house I am currently most interested in is bright pink and made of plastic… Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse is a hilarious take on the life of Barbie, with all the limitations of being made of plastic and having immovable limbs.
There are plenty of comic references to Barbie’s 126 careers (and counting), her extensive wardrobe and her 43 year relationship with Ken – 43 years since they first held hands.
My 13 year old daughter loves this as much as she did when she was 5 years old. For me, it has the advantage of being a show that I can bear to watch too.
I love the ad for “Sand-away”, a product to help with the problem of getting grit in your plastic hinges; and when the car battery goes flat and Ken pulls a Duracell C battery from the car bonnet.
The cast is made up of Barbie; her younger sisters, who always manage to get it wrong when they try to help; Ken, who is utterly devoted to Barbie, no matter how many times she runs late for a date; and Barbie’s wardrobe robot.
This is a show that is clean, but also funny and intelligent – one the kids can watch and won’t drive you completely crazy when you’re hearing it in the background for the 50th time!
